She May Be Better Than You

If you think you're better than a Muslimah just because she's not dressing according to Islam, than know that you are worse than her. She might have a relationship with Allah that is much better than yours. She might have one weakness that is outward, and you have fifty that are hidden. So the next time you're going correct your sister's mistake, ask yourself whether your doing this because you genuinely love her and want her to succeed or to just boost your big ego. Advise her kindly, because no one wants to listen to a harsh, and rude person. Also don't publicly humiliate her. Talk to her when there is no one else around.

The concept of thinking that we are better than others is called arrogance. And when we judge one another we tend to fall into this trap. The prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said that the one who has even a mustard seed of arrogance will not enter paradise. So we should check our hearts and see if we have any amount of this disease. Arrogance is what brought the destruction of Firown (Pharaoh) when he denied Moses (peace be on him). Allah says in the Quran in Surah Israa' :

وَلَا تَمْشِ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّكَ لَن تَخْرِقَ الْأَرْضَ وَلَن تَبْلُغَ الْجِبَالَ

طُولً

"And walk not on the earth with conceit and arrogance. Verily you can neither rend nor penetrate the earth nor can you attain stature like the mountain in height"(Israa' 17:37)

In this verse Allah (swt) truly puts us in our place. So how do we get this arrogance out of our system?

Well, I have some tips:

1. Remember how small you are and how big Allah is.

2. Look at your own faults and shortcoming before examining others (this should keep you busy).

3. Remember that arrogance is worse than sinning.

4.  Make Duaa (supplication) to Allah to help you give proper advice, and to purify you.
